Meals on Wheels to Include Pet Food

Updates from Program Coordinator

The first MOW4PetsNassau delivery was July 27, 2009.

The food is donated (for now) by Royal Canin out of Rollo, Missouri. The food is donated and we pay the shipping. We are currently distributing our 4th shipment of food.

The program currently serves 65 dogs and 61 cats.

Earlier this year, MOW4PetsNassau received a $1,000 grant from the Henry & Betty Seissler Memorial Fund through The Community Foundation in Jacksonville to implement a spay/neuter/healthcare arm of services for our clients.

So far, of the 65 dogs in the program, 40 have been spayed or neutered. Of the 61 cats in the program, 49 have been spayed or neutered. Cat's Angels paid for the first 7 cats to be altered. As of June, 2010, 25 dogs and 12 cats still need surgery.

We are planning another Rollin' on the River fundraiser in September, 2010. We hope this will be a sunset cruise on the Cumberland Island Ferry. Details haven't been finalized yet. Also, the Singing for Suppers chili dinner will be an annual event.

We have applied for our federal tax exemption but, as of June, 2010, we have not yet received it.
